How about doing a list of edible meats that you have always wanted to try but have never had the opportunity to eat?
I know as a lamb producer a lot of people have never tried lamb before, so that may be your answer, but for me I have heard that turtle actually tastes delicious, but I have never had turtle meat before despite the rather robust reviews it gets.
I know my Grandmother grew up in the Depression without a father and subsided on the cuts of meat that no one wanted. With 7 girls in the family and no boys, they survived on beef hearts, lamb liver and deer and rabbit.
So lets try and get a list going of strange, but edible meats and maybe even some recipes.

Spoken by Alfred, a full time dairy farmer in 2008 while chopping grass silage. He was NOT talking about monetary value however...

I would have to say Buffallo for me.

| I have worked in China and Korea and have eaten dog, cat, snake and rat. this is just what I know of, there were other foods that I could not recognise. I remember in the factory canteen in S Korea I refused to eat the Black tar covered rice stuff they got me and the boy was sent to the local "take out" and bought me back a "dog burger" It tasted...OK.

| I went to Korea also and at times it was simply better not to ask what you were eating! But all in all I had a wonderful culinary visit with Korea. "Grilled squid and sojoue" was a favorite of mine. And so, so chewie!! Draw, if you fillet the meat out of the inside of the shell on a turtle, brown it and work it into a milk gravy with some garlic and black pepper, serve it over buttermilk biscuits and a glass of whole milk... finnish it off with a bit of fresh apple butter, man oh man!! WOW you just took me back years to my youth!! In Oklahoma you can get rattler at the roundup's (more bone than anything else) But basicly I would like to try something like Iguana, heard about it being wonderful meat that is chased with xxx dosekies ( spell check has no clue on that one sorry) when cooked over an open fire. smokebox

Farmermom (7/22/2009) I would have to say Buffallo for me. There is not much difference between it and beef, it is leaner though. smokebox

| I'd love to sample whale meat. This will be on the menu during my next trip to Tokyo. Meats I'd go out of my way to eat again: mountain lion back-strap, horse, fried ants & larvae (light weight, salty & spicey), raw kobe beef, and Meats I've eaten & will try to never eat again: porkupine, bear, dog, cat, kangaroo, turtle, camel. I travel for business to 6 continents and end up eating some strange to US people foods. Most is good because it's at the high end of the local price structure, but the cleanliness is always suspect. Mmm, interesting question.
I once had alligator - tastes like chicken.
Bear is very nice if you avoid dump bears. Beaver has a taste unto it's own and you must cut out all fat or it tastes like a poplar tree. The tail is suppose to be a delicacy, but it's nothing but fat and tastes like cracklin's. I'd eat bear again but not beaver.
