| Hi, my name is Kim, I'm the Inadvertent Farmer. I am in the process of raising 5 kids, 1 camel, a handfull of llamas and various critters on our 10 acre farm in Western Washington. I homeschool, garden, sew, blog, pray and vote. I am glad to be here and am looking forward to learning from other small farmers! I would love to hear from anyone else with a camel...oh and how do I make my pictures smaller? Thanks! Kim

Welcome! Great picture! No camel, but you have given me a great idea. I hope my husband doesn't read this!

| How did you happen to get a camel? Years ago I toolk my Arabian mare to be bred at Tempo Arabians in Marine-on-St-Croix, MN, and they had several camels among their exotic livestock. I liked them a lot and always thought I wanted some but it never happened. Now my older llama has very camel-like qualities so he's my pseudo-camel. Tell us more about your camel, please. Male? Female? Do you plan to ride him (or her)? I assume your camel is a dromedary, right? Sue

the inadvertent farmer (6/21/2009) Hi, my name is Kim, I homeschool, garden, sew, blog, pray and vote.
Good for you, and rest assured you are not alone and that I have a lot of respect for all those activities, but especially homeschooling, praying and voting...wow do we need more of that in this society.
I don't have a camel, but it sounds cool actually. I wonder how they would do with guarding sheep?
Eat lamb...because 50,000 coyotes CAN'T be wrong!

| We have a camel because our chrurch does a live nativity every year and what would be an authentic Bethlehem without a camel? They started out by renting him but when his previous owner wanted a camel with two humps he gave us a good deal on him. Because of insurance liabilities the church cannot officially own him so we are his legal guardians and have been for about 7 years now! His name is Gizmo, he is almost 20 years old, has one hump and a BIG attitude! He loves to eat my roses and heirloom tomatoes, harass the goats, and beg for treats! My teenagers have tried to ride him with little success...he reaches around and grabs their legs and pulls them off his back! I am glad to see I'm not the only camel owner here...farmers are indeed a crazy bunch! Kim
