not to knock you.. I'll just say that's the kind of talk that makes almost every point it's applied to because it's not backed up with facts but emotions. This tactic makes it easily to high jack any cause if someone wants to make a iron case for there cause.

I mean you said "Children" in marketing they call that a $50 word. It grabs parents by the heart... "oh my baby"
(your son is 30 and lives at home but he's still your baby)

so if I disagree then anyone watching would presume I don't like kids or I'm a meal old capitalist.

If I disagrees with your points on the world, then I'm the Onceler in the Dr Seuss story and you would be that little fuzzy creature.

The trouble is that this program makes money for people who have a clear fiscal interest in the program's ability to tax business. These programs restrict one's ability to do business, start new programs and create new jobs. For many people, they only know what the talking heads tell them. I'd say that much of what we are told is simply propaganda produced by those who would like to sell you an idea.

If you want to do these things, then why don't you just do them? If everyone's goal is as you have said, then why do they need a tax?

Because large groups follow scary stories told by talking heads about Mr Burns high in his office, counting his millions wile he stroking a black cat and watches his henchmen dunk babies into vats of poison goo.

It's easy to get invest emotions in a story like this, especially when you hate your boss or you feel unfairly compensated for your work, or have that american desire to rebel agents "The Man" and the "establishment".

Global warming is BS. As I type our temp is in the high 40's & IT'S AUGUST!

As a businessmen and farmer....
I'm taxed and pay into enough programs and state run inspectors and bosses. I do not desire to pad another pocket or create another fake job that has no reason for existing other than to abuse nice people.

I was an environmental major is school some 15 years ago and I can assure you the science is sound. Global warming is a deceiving title, it really should be labeled climate change. Your 40 degree morning in August is actually an indicator of these changes. As the polar ice caps melt they release tons of frigid water into the ocean currents. These temperature differentials change the ocean currents and therefore change the weather patterns globally. While the east is cold and wet, other parts of the country are hot and dry.

To address the original question, a carbon footprint is how much carbon your lifestyle creates. The more carbon released, the warmer the planet becomes overall. This is an average, meaning, some places will get much warmer, while others become colder. Reducing your footprint reduces the amount of carbon released and therefore buys us more time to react to these global changes.

As for your Lorax statement, I am quite happy to "Speak for the Trees". My only point about the children is I am sure your family farm was passed down to you...do you not want to do the same for your children? It is a matter of respect for the earth. The planet will survive, of this I am sure, the question is, will it still be a hospitable place for humans?

Oh it will be much better then hospitable...it will be a wondrous, glorious place beyond fathom really. Its no big secret either, what will happen to this world has been all spelled out and while it will get worse before it gets better, there is no way to control the inevitable.

Its really ironic, as parents we want the best for our children, but as generations pass it only gets worse. Oh yeah, their lives get easier, but they are losing morals, have increasing behavior problems and are certainly getting lazy. Ultimately giving them what the world considers "good" is a far cry from what is actually "good" on a spiritual and moral scale.

And that is why I take issue with some of the environmentalist movement's today. It says clearly in the bible that humans were put as rulers of this earth. It also says that everything we need is indeed right here on this earth. I am not going to feel guilty about harvesting trees to build my home, or make toilet paper out of them so society can go potty in a civilized manner. Or raise and slaughter lambs, or buy diesel fuel in my tractor, etc...

Unfortunately it also says their will be plenty of false prophets and I think some environmentalists fall within that group. I don't think it is right for any person..christian or otherwise...to exploit this earth, but I think if many of these people who fought hard for environmental groups took the time they spent there, and instead went to church, they would get a new appreciation on what is really important, and what is really going to happen to this great earth and the people and children upon it. As I said before, it is not a secret, you just got to hear the message. It's pretty hard to do that when you are running for your life because you think the sky is falling...literally. I have faith in a much higher entity then a few college professors who collectively think icebergs are melting...

(PS...I kind of suspect the icebergs are indeed melting, by the looks of things in Maine, they have been melting for the last ½ million years or so.)

As for the weather WOS...yes its been cold here too. First I have ever heard of frost in August. But oh well. We had a wet spring, but just before all crops were lost, the weather broke, the ground got warm and our corn took off.

It says in the big black book with ultra thin pages that there is a time to sow, and a time to harvest, and he will give you the weather to do both, you just need to trust and be willing to do the work when called upon.

It worked for us this year. Some may call it luckily, I call it a higher calling. We put the anhydrous ammonia to it as a hail mary to the corn, and by golly it paid off for us immensely. Apparently that was the time to sow and we did so. God will give us the weather we need...it has nothing to do with melting ice bergs.

You are so right Draw!
many people are exactly as you say OR they are the congregation. They worship the Earth in a way. They feel for it, or the take the words of men like Al Gore as there Bible. Now some have faith for the right reasons and for other's it a place to been seen. I'd say this is also true of Those who worship the earth.

The only thing is that this "god" Earth is the only thing they want to protect.

Not every environmental organization is like this, and I think for the most part people keep things in perspective, but I think we must realize we are simply maintaining mother nature...a higher authority actually created it.

My money is betting on the latter being a better bet, that is all.

no..one out of perhaps 500 such groups holds a snowballs chance in Hell of being some what not like this... maybe.

to survive these groups must make industry the devil. The wicked mean old producers who feed the masses and give them jobs. They are easy to hate right? They have more money than most they do more than most.. and they force you to get out of bed and be to work at 8am. what jurks.

what those people forget is that without our industry, who would they tax to death?

Hi.
I haven't read all of the posts to this question so I may be repeating others (really it's just one persons opinion over another).
The "carbon footpint" is really so simple. It's the amount of consumable energy that you contribute to the world. That relates to the energy you use: electricity, gas, propane, etc, Also the products that you consume and the pakaging that contains them as well as the energy that goes into manufacturing that item and pakaging.. When it comes right down to it, the "carbon footprint" is more than you can imagine.
Stop a moment and think of all the materials (do you even know what they are?) , time, cost, human labor, shipping, storage, delivery, dispossal, of a soft drink. Then think of that multiplied by millions. That is a carboln footprint. Awesome...isn't it?

We humans are at point where wewish we can blame a particular event or concern or belief for our current situation. Honestly, each of us can be aware now of what is happening, that we as individuals have chosen what transpires and we can change it if we choose to do so. Then we can create a whole new worl./
