Pine cones are a simple and abundant crafting material on many farms. What ideas do you have to incorporate pine cones into holiday crafts?

| Our 9 yr old takes the smaller ones and paints them green to make pine trees for his 1/16th farm. We use the snow in a can and sprayed them white one yr to decorate the Christmas tree. We rolled them in peanut butter on them one year and use chicken scratch to make home made bird feeders for outside. Made Thanksgiven turkeys out of them one year and had the kids to copy their hand prints to make the back feathers for the male turkey. We've crused them up one year and used them to decopoage (sp?). Son had a collection at one time of them but the dog used them as a chew toy....LOL...

| This year as Christmas presents we are using the scented oil with candle wax and to cover the cones to they can use them in the fire to make the room smell nice. Son wanted to use the small ones as place card holders for Non-Turkey Day...LOL

pine cone crafts... I once saw an article where they added eyes and a little hat and made an elf for the tree. Me, I have a bowl of different cones as a decoration. Towards Christmas gold balls go in with the cones. Towards valentines I switch some to reds and towards Easter they turn to pastels. Rest of the year the cones go in a bag to be brought out next Christmas. My mother used to make wreaths with them, cutting the big ones so they looked like flowers.

| The good thing about pine cones is that they are already dried. P2 and I saw some beautiful dolls made out of different size pine cones sitting on a Friend's fire mantal. They are also cheap decoration when you are freshing up the old Christmas wreath from last year.
