For carpets sprinkle it over and let it stands for 5 minutes then vaccum it up and through away the bag ASAP.

We also sprinkle it like DE in the coop along with the brand new pine shavings when I can't get my hands on the DE.

I second the flea thing. We lived in Florida and had sand fleas take over our house. We sprinkled Borax on the carpet and let it stand for a couple of days. It works in so you don't see it. After several days vaccum and the flea problem is gone. The borax is a drying agent and dried the eggs so we broke the cycle. People treat the flea problem but forget about the eggs that will hatch a couple of days after treatment.

I also use it for drying skins. Scrape the skin good, add a littlie salt and borax then roll the skin. Place it in a cool dry place. I use to tie my own fishing flies and used alot of bucktail and squirrel tail and fur.

Borax is my standard cleaning agent and laundry soap with some vinegar as a cleaning assist.  My main memory of borax is the old commercials with (then) second rate actor, Ronald Reagan, standing in front of a borax mining operation before the old TV show he hosted.  Mary Ann

I always us Borax with laundry. Where I live the water is very very hard and I dump in 1/2 cup of borax and a cup of ordinary white vinegar and it really helps with getting the laundry nice and fresh.  Cheers.

Borax - yes, I keep hearing of more uses for it, besides putting it in the laundry. If you have an ant hill in a spot you don't like, such as the middle of a garden, mix a little sugar with the borax and sprinkle it on the hill. The ants take it down into the nest and it kills the queen. Not sure why they'd take the borax as well as the sugar but it seems to work.

Although we don't have fleas, I'll remember the carpet tip.

Wonder if you could use borax on your animals either as a dust or mixed with water to stop fleas? We have put drops on and they aren't working. I use Pert fresh to kill them but they are back in a couple days with the dogs going outside to potty. We don't have them inside, yet, but will remember it in case they show up.

DE (Die.... Earth) would be safer on animals.

it can be used on the yard to kill pests, it will also kill the beneficial bugs in your garden. I use boric acid inside around the walls to help with pest problems but will use borax also. I have a recipe for making your own laundry soap using borax. would love to share if any one is interested.
