Recently I rented 2 bulldozers to a crew working in the gas fields of PA.
The tool pusher said clearly, "Don't bring me A CAT!"
His hate of CATERPILLAR Equipment was based on the fact that CAT received
Gov money and he would only take a John Deere.
Then He asked what I drive... I told him A Chevy 2500 HD. But I was quick to tell him that I'd had it for a long time and it was paid for. But like most farmers here I'd be drive'n a Ford next time.
He was quick to tell me that his employer had made a new lease agreement for 100 Ford Trucks and would be turning in there GM's based on the recent situation.
anyone elts change'n Gears?

| Soon as I can afford it. Like you, my dodge ram is long since paid for and being retired I can't just go out and buy a new ford 150 even though I would love to. Ken

I don't think Ford was all that much better in the whole deal then Dodge or GMC. They were well represented at both legislative hearings and would have taken the money if they could have. When the restrictions got to be pretty intense, and they had to really start answering questions, Ford admitted that it was not exactly in the dire straits that GMC and Dodge were in...but rest assured, they would have taken the money had no so many probing questions been asked.
The problem with these things, if you change your buying habits based on government involvement, there is no end to it. Every other year you are going to be going to a new dealer, vendor or service location. I can't afford to do that, I set up long standing relationships and run with it. Most of the time the local businesses have no control over what corporate execs do anyway.
If you are making your buying decisions based on these kinds of factors and not net term agreements, your not a very savory businessman in my opinion. If GMC has a better finance rate then what Ford has, you better believe I am going there. Making buying decisions based on hierarchy is rather silly. I mean if you come right down to it, the majority of Ford's are built in Mexico...why not buy a Toyota Tundra which is from a company that did not take government bail out money either, and has more employees in the USA then either GMC, Ford of Dodge?
Eat lamb...because 50,000 coyotes CAN'T be wrong!

| you would be the only person to say that as far as my reasurch has shown to date. GM took the money.... so it's not that I'm changeing gears...actualy a vast majority of major non union businesses are changing buying habbits, not just some hicks in pa. If GM chose to take the money then it was they, not the government that has effected my choice. It's like any choice they didn't need to take the money...they could have taken what was come'n to them.

| WOS, Can you not see that this is all another example of the Gov protecting industry form the FREE MARKET The efficiency levels of these businesses are such that they cannot compete with imports. Like I said on the other post, as a US person you need to ask WHY your ag and ind cannot compete and put it right.

| Britboy, if you look at the third quarter report you would see that ford made a profit while gm and chrysler lost again. So much for gubment protection from the free market. Ken

Okay, I'm ignorant of this subject.
But, mistrust and dislike of the government aside, who would not "take the money" if it was offered? Would any of you turn it down?

| I would be hard pressed to turn it down in these hard times (at least for me), however, once you accept a handout from the gubment you are now subject to their control. There are always strings attached, nothing is free. You have lost a little bit more of the freedom we have fought so long to preserve. Ken

When my first business started up and took off I was hardly old enough to buy a beer. This got lots of people interested in my ideas and the state and county both offered me "great deals". but I did not take them. Other people did take those same offers and now they are in a major pickle.
there is no Money fairy
Did you know that GM was started by a man who once worked in the horse business? rather than getting a bail out when Ford started to kick him around, he changed gears and adapted.
If industry is left to it's own it will naturally weed out the people who run there businesses poorly and or the greedy. The best way to keep your self on the tight rope of enterprise is to work with out a net.
This has everything to do with the business of agg to date.
