| I'm still looking for a hobby farm in north dakota. In the county of cass. I'm lookong for a run down small farm that has not been used for some time. It does not matter if the land is not too good. I would prefer poor soil conditions. Since I will be doing alot of experiements with natural fertilizers and also lots of hydroponics. Looking to make some sort of deal for the land. I would need atleast 10 acres up to 20 acres. The house or other buildings can be very rundown. I am a fairly good handyman.

| Steve, we've answered each other's posts a couple times. I have the 60 acres near Petersburg that I just got. I wasn't looking in Cass County but did work with Crary Realty and I know they have listings there. The place I found was advertised in the smaller local paper and I almost think that is easier than using realators. I'm sure you know that Cass will be more expensive. I also worked with Vorland Realty from New Rockford but most of their stuff is in that area or near Devil's Lake. If you want poor land...they have a site near Penn that is on Hwy 2 and has lots of salt. (Just kidding) I'm guessing that you also need to keep a day job in the Fargo area but if that's not an issue, there might be stuff near Northwood. Good luck. Mary Ann

| Greetings, all. I have a few questions for the resident hobby farm guru. Here is my situation. Currently, I am in the military and have about 7 more years until I ride off into the sunset. As of this moment, I am in (I can't tell you where I am, but I am sure you have a pretty good idea as to where). Anyway, my wife and I have been doing exhaustive research on looking for a hobby farm, preferably in Missouri. We have also researched this great site (hobbyfarms.com) for all the homework we will need to get our hobby farm off the ground. We are looking at a nice piece of land anywhere from 5-10 acres. I know it may not sound like much to some, but I would like to get my feet wet in farming before I go and get more land. And you may not here this much, if any time at all. I grew up in the big cities, and I am sick and tired of them. Sure, the big city is nice for things that you need to keep things running like your car and stuff like that, but when I retire from the Army, I want to lead a simple life, live off the land and provide for my growing family (which stands at 3 kids, 8, 6 and 4. Any info that you may have would be greatly appreciated. If reply could be emailed to me at bowden_ctr@yahoo.com Thank you for the great servive that hobbyfarms.com provides and for all the great work that you all do.

| I'm going to email you off list but wonder if you're looking at the Ozarks or farther north in Missouri's more fertile farm country? If you're considering the Ozarks, I'd be glad to collect and send you a packet of newspapers, free shoppers, and realtors' brochures from this neck of the woods (south central Missouri and northernmost Arkansas, although I suggest you stick to Missouri rather than Arkansas). To to rocky soil, it isn't farm country per se right where we live but the land is great for cattle and goats. If you get maybe thirty to forty miles farther north, you can grow field crops on some farms. Land is relatively inexpensive in this area (right around us, we're talking $1000-1500 an acre for undeveloped properties), we have little winter to speak of (although I guess that's relative too, as we came here from central Minnesota), and the beauty of this region is an asset, too. It's the least can do for someone serving a hitch in the place you cannot mention. Sue

| sue, Thank you so much for the help. We are looking into the southern part of missouri, around raymondville area. We would be new to the farming biz so to speak, but not to growing our own fruits and veggies. And we would like to have a nice place to raise our 3 kids and not have to worry about the crime ridden big cities (which i can't stand any more). I don't mind getting my hands dirty by any stretch of the imagination. My wife has the green thumb in the household, so that makes me the pack mule of sorts...lol. Anyway, I don't mind hard work. And thank you for the kind gesture about my being over here in .... It is my 5th time here and God willing, my last. GO CARDINALS! Clinton

| I'm so glad you posted! When I e-mailed you off-list, the e-mail bounced. So, if you could send your USPS mail address to wolfmooncurlies@yahoo.com (that's my junk mail address, so it doesn't matter if spammers grab it from this post), I'll get some local printed material together and on its way. It's really nice in your target area. Actually, that's approximately where we were headed when decided to move south: Houston, Missouri. Houston, Willow Springs, Cabool--all of those places are very nice indeed, and not all that far from Rolla (read: conveniences). Five tours "over there". Wow, I bet you are longing for these green Ozark hills! Sue

| Sure, no problem. My wife and I love the area. We did have one place picked out, but it sold. And the way the market is now, especially where we live currently, which is south of Richmond VA. Virginia is a hotbet for hurricanes. And correct me if I am wrong, but MO does see its share of tornadoes? Not that I am worried about them. Been thru just about every natural disaster. The worst one, the World Series Quake back in 1989. Was in the middle of that one. Unfortunately, I am feeling another tour here in 'paradise'. Retirement can't come quick enough!
