| So now that I know some of you can veggies I am wondering if anybody could give me a run down of how it works. The biggest one I am looking at is tomatoe sauce, even better would be spaghetti sauce because I use many, many jars of it a year. When I was younger all we did was make grape jelly and I don't really remember much of that. So do you cook the tomatoes? I know my mom used to put the jars in the oven to make them seat. How does all this work? Thanks in advance

| My advice is to find someone who can show you how. Reading is great, and you will most likely be successful with reading alone, but it makes for a much better learning experience if you can learn from an expert. For example, this week my grandma is showing my wife how to can tomatoes. If you have older parents, neighbors, friends, acquaintences from church, etc. they often have the time and interest to show younger people old-time skills.

| I have not yet canned but I have a Bell Jar book on all kinds of preserving which has a variety of recipes for spagetti sauces, etc. My plan is to make some small batches of each flavor and see what my kids like the best so that NEXT YEAR when my tomatoes produce like crazy (Hope! Hope!) I will be ready. Mary Ann
