| The list of ways we can help the earth on Earth Day and every day is endless--and we're learning more ways every day. We started a list of things we can do ... Around the Farm - Start a compost pile.
- Use mulch to conserve water in your garden.
Around the House
- Recycle everything!
- Weatherize and insulate your home, and consider installing double pane windows.
In Our Lives and Our Communities
- Buy recycled products.
- Spread the word about conservation!
Let's EXPAND the list! What can farmers do to help? Tell us what you do on Earth Day or every day to pitch in.

Thanks for starting this thread!
I'm a little late for Earth Day, but on our farm we try to make Earth Day every day, too. In addition to those already mentioned, here are some strategies we've implemented:
1. We've changed all our light bulbs to compact fluorescents.
2. We bought a fairly inexpensive, high mpg new car for my husband to commute to work in, I took his old car (which also gets good mileage), and we semi-retired the gas-guzzling farm truck I'd been driving, except for hay/gravel runs, etc.
3. We've cut down on driving, making sure to combine errands on trips to town.
4. When the rains stop, I start hanging my laundry out to dry.
5. We installed gravel sacrifice areas for our horses, to cut down on winter mud and muck formation that leads to nutrient run-off.
6. We're trying to grow more of our own food, buy more food from local small farmers, and buy more organic/fair trade products at the supermarket.
