| I was hoping to start some garlic beds this fall and want to make sure I time it right, does anyone know if it's too soon or late to start in NJ? Thanks ahead of time.

| If you get your garlic in by mid-October, you should be fine. If you are already getting heavy frosts, plan to plant a little earlier next year. The cloves will develop their root systems over the winter, and then you should see good top growth early in spring. It is a good idea to mulch your garlic bed with several inches of straw or other mulch (especially if your ground freezes) to help insulate the cloves.

| Down in LA, our garlic is already 4" high. But this is garlic that we haven't taken out of the ground from last year.
