Are you getting flash from behind you reflecting in your sheild.sometimes this happens if you put a nonreflecting screen around your work area it will prevent this.We weld on parts all the time with stick tig and wirefeed welders and this works for us.

Nice tip. Need to write that one down. Just like drinking a thick glass of milk to coat the throat before you start to weld.
