Its been a slow day so far...and far too hot to do much. I just got one sick sheep to tend to now so that took only a few minutes and with the wife and kids all gone, I figured I would make a decent meal.

It all started this winter when I plowed out my neighbor during a fierce winter storm. he gave some bacon from a pig he slaughtered. The egs were local as well, and while the bread for my egg sandwich was not, it still tasted pretty darn good.

Next came the blueberry smoothie. Blueberries are in harvest right now, so a neighbor gave me a few quarts of them. I mixed that into a smoothie and as I type away, I', chowing down and drinking away. If it was not for the oppressive heat, it would actually be quite delightful!

I love vegetarians...slice them real thin, dip them in ranch dressing and they compliment lamb quite well! :-)

Well this year we did not make any fig jelly. The rains came to late and when Ma-Maw said it wasn't worth the time...you now the weather got to dry for the figs. Ma-Maw makes the best sweet rolls for the morning rush and then tops it off with the jellys that she's made from this year or the past depending what's in the cupboard.

sounds lovely - thats my favourite thing about this time of year - eating locally takes on a whole new meaning - pretty much eating within view!

HHHUUUUUMMMMM sounds like my plain ole cup of coffee with cream & sugar at 3am falls a little flat compared to what everyone else is having for breakfast. I might have to take a working vacation -  fresh bacon, fresh eggs, toast, all I've got fresh is eggs, eggs, & more eggs.

Farmermom...are you sure you live in the same state as me? Life is peaceful here but in August you darn better lock your car when you go into a store because when you come back you just might be zucchinied. You know, where some well meaning neighbor dumps about 40 pounds of zucchini in your car, or blueberries, or peas, corn, etc...

Seriously, I would have my own garden but I get so much food from other peoples gardens that it really doesn't make sense.

But here is another question. Are you on the Buy Local Online Map of Maine? This is a map that the conservation district is working on in order to get people to buy local food. You put your place on there and if people in the area want eggs, they know you have them for sale. If they want lamb, well my place is on there. Its an effort to match farms with people who want to do the right thing. Maybe it will help you get rid of all those eggs.

(Note: Farmermom...I mention these things only because we live in the same state and my position on the local AG board lets me know this stuff exists...do what you want with the links and info)

DB we'd love to sell our eggs but the town says no we can't. We do supply some of the neighbors with them and Sis takes a lot to work and sells them thru the feed store where she works, the neighbors do get upset because we can't even except money to help cover the feed but they repay by baking or when one goes strawberry or blueberry picking she makes sure we're well supplies as well.

I'm getting a permit today so that we can build a good size greenhouse on the back of the garage and the hopes are that before fall we can get a big load of loam and expand the garden and next year I'll be able to take advantage of the local farmers market, but I am going to keep that link for future referance (thanks!)

Down here you don't lock your car to keep from being zucchinied (I wish I would so I could get some ground & in the freezer for bread over the winter) in Aug here you lock your car so that when you come out of the store your stereo is still in it. Such is the life when you live in a tourist trap.

c I don't think I could handle whipped cream at 3 am especially seeing as breakfast is a double chocolate brownie at 5 am

Then I would forget the whipped cream in the coffee and go for the icecream and make it a $9.00 coffee instead.
