15W40 is C_ rated engine oil (diesel, fleet oil) Your engine should use 15W40 (Wal-Mart, yellow banded label, about $2.00 a qt.), your transmission uses GL-1 (I get mine at Tractor Supply). You can get all your lubricants at Tractor Supply, Northern Tool, Your local tractor dealer, etc. DO NOT USE other than GL-1 as GL-2 thru GL-5 have additives that will actually damage your transmission. I highly suggest getting a service manual (ebay?) for you vehicle. Good Luck!

Thanks- I was able to get an operators manual from Yesterday's Tractors.com and it calls for 90W mineral oil.

I have a 1944 Ford 2N. I am trying to find what kind/weight of fluid I need for the Transmission/Hydraulics? I have been told everything from 15W40 transmission fluid (I have been ubable to find transmission fluid that advertises viscosity) to 80-90W gear lube. Is there anyone out there that has experience with this tractor?
