Here we see lots of tractor sales due to the natural gas industry and all the leases are leading to old men who never had 2 coins to rub, getting a realy nice new tractor (rather than a car ha ha!)

YOur going to invest some coin, so take your time.

RE: Buying a new tractor

I believe negotiation is appropriate. It depends on the dealer and sometimes the time of year. I think the bargains are to be had at the end of the year. The most important thing to consider is how good is the dealer. A good tractor will still need parts and occasion service. I would always look at the quality of service provided by the dealership.

RE: Buying a new tractor

when getting a tractor, go easy on the haggle, the dealer will be useful later and unless your a mecanic or expert...you don't want to be a pain to the guy who may help you with real advice later. Relation of mine did this and he can't even get into the JD dealer's showroom now.

So, ask yourself...

What do I want to do with it, do I need 4Wd, what kind of Power take off power to I need,

If I need a front end loader, what will I lift? remember, lifting capasity and tipping capasity are DIFFRENT! you will be told the higher number by the rep. If your just going to pick stuff up, and not move with it then don't worry...for the other 99% of you..don't forget to answer this question.

Ask your self, how fast can I get parts and service. Sure..you can get a great big Russian tractor from the 80's...but do you want to wait 30 days for a part to come by mule train?

If you want a brush mower for the back, make sure it's not to big. those tires on the front, need to be on the ground

how big a deal is cab, air ect?

If you buy a used tractor, and your reading this text, take a mecanic or a real pro with you.. not your brother-in-law who changed oil once...but someone who knows about stuff like blow back, hydrolics, and other warning of trouble.

Don't by a tractor becouse you like the color, or cuz it looks good with bibs and straw hats.

Also, one might want to think about were this machine will be when not in use. Don't cover it with a plastic tarp for 6 months.

Father is a vet equipment dealer (all over the world) and we have 319 acre farm.

Good luck

RE: Buying a new tractor

I personally would love a nice, new Deere. However, have you considered used? Both of my tractors are used, a Super A and a deisel 365 w/ front end loader. They are easy to maintain, reliable and hard working. You can save thousands buying used, and usually get reliable, easy to maintain equipment.

RE: Buying a new tractor

http://www.american-ag.com

Here's a site that sells farm equipment. I bought a 334 with a loader and it is wonderful.it is 33hp and came standard with a heavy built loader.i purchased the optional 4n1 bucket and find it very good for picking up logs and moving railroad ties.I know that they make bigger tractors and seem to be on the cutting edge for these types of tractors.I saved about 35% over what a big name tractor would have cost and enabled me to add a couple of attachments with it.

www.tytanag.com

Buying a new tractor

I will be purchasing a new tractor in the next couple of weeks, I have looked at John Deere, New Holland, Kubota is buying a tractor like buying a car. Are you expected to negotiate the price or are they set prices from a dealer.

If they are negotiable what is the appropriate discount from the dealer quoted price
