Congratulations on a new member of your family on the way.</P><P>Farming is a great way of life for children. Mine sometimes complained about the chores, but they are adults now and have thanked us many times for giving them a good work ethic. Our oldest son made Airman of the Year and credits knowing how to work hard for his achievement. Our youngest is now in college and working part time and she gets many compliments for her commitment and drive.</P><P>As for the farm - start small so you don't get in over your heads and get discouraged. I don't know what your area offers so they may have a group for many different types of animals let the kids check out the different groups so that THEY will know what is involved in the up keep and care of them before you buy them. Also might be some type of gardening group for them to go to. One idea is to section off area's in the garden for each child to grow what they want this way if they grow it they will be more apt to eat it and for the one who wants to grow flowers remember some flowers are edible. I grew up on a farm loved it would not want to change it. My name is George, I have a wonderful wife and 5 children (just found out soon to be six) from southern New Jersey. I work for a small career fire department and I am the Assistant Chief of my local volunteer fire house. This will be my first year starting a farm. My father always had a decent size garden growing up and that kind of led me into wanting to start a farm. This past October my wife and I were able to purchase an old farm house on 10 acres so we are hoping to have things up and running by the spring.
